Ahoy Eco-Conscious humans! We give a lot of advice on what to buy here, but what if I told you that the most eco-friendly and cost effective thing you can do is make things yourself? Things like eco-friendly laundry detergent.
Would you be shocked? Confused? Not surprised at all?
We are assuming the last one. But we thought we would give you a super simple, super cheap, super fast, super eco-friendly recipe for laundry detergent.
This way you know EXACTLY what is going on the skin of you and your family, and it does not waste all that material like plastic bottles and what not.
Plus did we mention how much cheaper it is? It can cut laundry costs in half.
Here it is.
Ingredients
4 cups Baking Soda (2 of the 8 oz. boxes)
3 cups Washing Soda
DIY Washing Soda:
- Preheat oven to 400 F
- Spread 3 cups of baking soda into a baking pan
- bake for an hour
- stir
- bake for about another hour
1 Bar of Castile Soap (grated)
Jars
Directions
- Use grater or food processor to grate the soap into a powder
- In a large mixing bowl add washing soda and baking soda
- DONE. Store in a air tight container!
Usage
- 1/8 cup per load
- 72 loads!
Wanna get fancy? Add some essential oils!
Side Note
Don’t eat the Washing Soda. It is not Baking Soda because it undergoes a chemical change when heated, so it is not interchangeable with Baking Soda.
Line Dry Whenever Possible…
One of the most eco-friendly things you can do is conserve energy. Most of us live places where a lot of the year you can hang dry your clothes on a line. It saves energy, money, and keeps your clothes intact for longer.
